Ramsey Point is a historically significant coastal site in Labuan, situated along a scenic stretch of beach where two major historical events unfolded.
On 24 December 1846, the Sultan of Brunei formally ceded control of Labuan to the British Crown as a gesture of goodwill. During a brief ceremony held on this very beach, Admiral George Mundy raised the British flag, officially marking the beginning of British rule in Labuan.
A century later, Ramsey Point once again became a site of historical importance during the Second World War. On 10 June 1945, Allied forces led by Douglas MacArthur landed here as part of the campaign to liberate Labuan and Borneo from Japanese occupation. This pivotal moment, associated with the Battle of Labuan, is commemorated today by a plaque located on the beach.
Today, Ramsey Point lies along the vibrant coastline of Pantai Tanjung Purun, adjacent to the International Sea Sports Complex. Visitors can enhance their experience by climbing the three-storey Ramsey Point Observation Tower, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding coastal landscape.
