Senado Square is a historic paved town square located in Macau, covering an area of approximately 3,700 square meters. It forms a key part of the Historic Centre of Macau and serves as a vibrant cultural and social hub in the heart of the city. Shaped as an elongated triangle, the square links Largo do São Domingos at one end and Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro at the other.

The square derives its name from the Leal Senado Building, which historically functioned as a meeting place for Chinese and Portuguese officials between the 16th and 18th centuries.
Surrounded predominantly by European-style buildings, many of which are protected heritage monuments, Senado Square underwent a transformation in the early 1990s. To accommodate the growing number of tourists, traffic was removed, parking lots were replaced, and the area was paved with traditional Portuguese mosaic stones, establishing it as a pedestrian-only zone.

Senado Square is also a central venue for Macau’s public life, hosting festivals, flea markets, performances, and historical military inspections by governors. Its cinematic appeal has made it a popular location for Hong Kong films during the 1950s and 1960s, preserving its role not only as a cultural landmark but also as a living symbol of Macau’s rich colonial and multicultural heritage.
